About the Fibre Board Folding Bird House

This bird house is made from smooth fibre board (MDF) in a warm terracotta-brown finish. The panels slot together with tabs, the roof edges are cut in a wavy scallop pattern, and a short perch sits below the round entrance so birds can land and look around before going in. A keyhole slot on the back lets you hang it on a nail or screw on a wall, pillar or fence. The closed box keeps out wind and rain. It suits house sparrows, munias and similar small birds, which often look for nesting nooks around homes. Choose a shaded spot under a ledge or roof edge, and its warm colour will look lovely against green plants.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
How long before birds move in?

Birds take their time. A pair may visit a new house for a few days or weeks before they settle in. Put it up early, leave it in one place, and you may soon see them carrying in grass and twigs.

Where should I put it up?

Above head height, on a wall, pillar or strong branch, in the shade and out of the rain. Keep it a little away from the feeder and out of reach of cats.

Should I put anything inside?

No, leave it empty. Birds like to build their own nest. A little dry grass or a few small twigs nearby is all they need.

How do I clean it?

Once the young birds have flown, take out the old nest and wipe the inside with plain water. Let it dry fully before the next pair moves in. No soaps or sprays.
