About the Coir Lantern Bird Nest
This nest is woven from coconut coir into a tall, narrow lantern shape: a long tapering neck at the top, a rounded middle with the entrance hole and a flared base underneath. The neck ends in a loop, so it hangs easily from a hook, branch or balcony railing and moves gently in the breeze, much like a nest hanging from a tree. The thick coir walls let air through and give small birds a sheltered chamber inside. Its shape suits house sparrows, munias and other small garden birds looking for a place to rest or raise chicks. Hang it among leaves or under a balcony ledge, where it is shaded for most of the day, and its natural brown fibre will blend right in.
