About the Blue Roof Bird Home

This bird house is made from light plywood in a natural wood finish, with a blue sloping roof and a matching blue strip at the base. A simple bird sketch is printed on the front beside the round entrance hole. The closed box keeps out wind and rain, and the entrance is sized for house sparrows, munias and similar small birds. Sparrows have fewer nooks to nest in around modern Indian buildings, so a house like this on a balcony wall, pillar or tree gives them a ready spot. Put it up somewhere shaded, facing away from the afternoon sun, and leave it undisturbed once birds start carrying in straw.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
How long before birds move in?

Birds take their time. A pair may visit a new house for a few days or weeks before they settle in. Put it up early, leave it in one place, and you may soon see them carrying in grass and twigs.

Where should I put it up?

Above head height, on a wall, pillar or strong branch, in the shade and out of the rain. Keep it a little away from the feeder and out of reach of cats.

Should I put anything inside?

No, leave it empty. Birds like to build their own nest. A little dry grass or a few small twigs nearby is all they need.

How do I clean it?

Once the young birds have flown, take out the old nest and wipe the inside with plain water. Let it dry fully before the next pair moves in. No soaps or sprays.
