Mustard Cake Powder (Sarso Khali)

Sarso khali is a long-trusted organic fertiliser in Indian gardens. It is what remains after the oil is pressed out of mustard seeds, and it is rich in the nutrients plants use to grow leaves and set flowers and fruit. Many gardeners give it to roses, hibiscus, jasmine and vegetable plants during the growing season. Mix a small spoonful into the topsoil of a pot, or scatter a little around plants in the bed and water well; it is gentle, but a little goes a long way, so feed once every few weeks rather than more. Some gardeners also soak it in water for a few days to make a liquid feed. Store the pack closed and dry.
