About the Hut Shape Coir Hanging Bird House

This bird house is moulded from pressed coconut coir into the shape of a little house, with straight walls and a rounded roof that comes down over the front like thatch. A round entrance sits in the middle of the front wall, and a cord loop on top lets you hang it from a hook, branch or balcony railing. Coir is a natural fibre that lets air through, keeping the chamber comfortable in summer and sheltered in cooler weather. It is sized for house sparrows, munias and similar small birds. Once a pair has settled in, leave the house be until the chicks have flown; afterwards you can take it down and clear out the old nesting material for next season.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
How long before birds move in?

Birds take their time. A pair may visit a new house for a few days or weeks before they settle in. Put it up early, leave it in one place, and you may soon see them carrying in grass and twigs.

Where should I put it up?

Above head height, on a wall, pillar or strong branch, in the shade and out of the rain. Keep it a little away from the feeder and out of reach of cats.

Should I put anything inside?

No, leave it empty. Birds like to build their own nest. A little dry grass or a few small twigs nearby is all they need.

How do I clean it?

Once the young birds have flown, take out the old nest and wipe the inside with plain water. Let it dry fully before the next pair moves in. No soaps or sprays.
