Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
What is a Ficus Ginseng bonsai?

A small tree grown from Ficus microcarpa, known for its thick, swollen roots and trunk, which look like ginseng root, and its dense, glossy green leaves.

Is it a good bonsai for beginners?

Yes. It's one of the most forgiving bonsai there is: hardy, happy indoors, and quick to bounce back after pruning.

Where should I keep it?

Right by a bright window, with plenty of indirect light and some gentle morning sun. A shaded balcony works too. It settles best in one spot, so try not to move it around.

How often should I water it?

Check the soil, not the calendar. Water when the top 1–2 cm feels dry, until water runs out of the pot. Bonsai pots are shallow and dry out faster than regular pots, so don't let it dry out fully.

Why is my bonsai dropping a few leaves?

It's usually reacting to a change, such as a new spot, less light or a cold draft. A few dropped leaves in the first couple of weeks after it arrives is normal. Keep it bright, water when the topsoil dries, and new leaves will follow.
