A weeder is most useful for removing weeds from pots, garden beds, and soil around plants without disturbing nearby roots.
How to use it
Insert the tip of the weeder into the soil close to the base of the weed and gently loosen the soil around it. Lever the tool slightly to lift the weed out along with its roots, which helps prevent it from growing back.
Hold the handle firmly but comfortably.
For forked or claw weeders, insert close to the weed and pull at an angle to lift the root.
For hoe or stirrup types, use a push-pull motion just under the soil surface.
Soft/loamy soil is easiest to work with.
In hard or compact soil, water the area first.
Choose a stronger, steel-bladed weeder for clay or rocky soil.
After light rain or watering: Soil is soft, making weeds easier to pull.
Early morning or late afternoon: Cooler temperatures reduce strain and stress on plants.
Insert the blade at the base of the weed.
Use a pushing or prying motion to loosen and lift the weed out.
For deep-rooted weeds, dig deeper and remove the entire root to prevent regrowth.
