Care Tips

Place the plant where curious pets and children cannot chew the leaves, as this plant is toxic and not meant to be eaten, and may cause irritation if ingested.

Use a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during the growing season to support healthy leaves and faster vine growth.

The plant adjusts well to regular home humidity, but it will enjoy an occasional misting during very dry weather.

Use a light mix with garden soil, cocopeat, compost, and a little sand or perlite so the roots get moisture without sitting in excess water.

Check the top layer of soil before watering and water only when it feels dry to the touch.

Keep it near a window, balcony door, or bright indoor corner where it gets good natural light without harsh direct sun.

Know Your Philodendron xanadu

Botanically known as Thaumatophyllum xanadu, recently reclassified from Philodendron xanadu following updated botanical research, this tropical evergreen is native to Brazil and belongs to the Araceae family, grown for its dramatically lobed, glossy foliage and naturally compact, clumping growth habit. Unlike the majority of plants in its family, which climb or trail, the Xanadu grows outward in a dense, self-supporting rosette that becomes fuller and more impressive with age. It is commonly known as Winterbourn, a name given to it by its original commercial cultivators in Australia before its natural Brazilian origin was confirmed. The Xanadu was for many years believed to be an exclusively cultivated hybrid with no wild origin, until botanists confirmed it as a naturally occurring species native to the forests of Brazil.

Best Placement for Your Philodendron xanadu

The Philodendron Xanadu thrives in bright indirect light and does best near an east or north-facing window where it receives consistent filtered sunlight throughout the day. It tolerates lower light conditions reasonably well, but its leaves will lose some of their deep gloss, and the plant will grow more slowly without adequate light. Its naturally outward-spreading, self-supporting rosette form gives it a strong presence without needing a wall, pole, or support structure, making it equally suited to a well-lit corner, a living room floor, or a statement shelf where its deeply lobed foliage can be fully appreciated. It appreciates moderate humidity and warmth, making it naturally well-suited to the Indian climate year-round.

What Your Philodendron xanadu Brings Home

The Philodendron Xanadu brings a bold, tropical character to any indoor space. Its deeply lobed, glossy foliage creates a dense, lush canopy that fills a room with a genuine sense of natural abundance. As a member of the Araceae family, it contributes to indoor humidity levels, releasing moisture into the air and making it a particularly beneficial addition to drier indoor environments. Its naturally clumping, self-supporting form means it grows into an increasingly impressive specimen over time, becoming fuller and more dramatic with every new leaf. It is also one of the more sought-after tropicals in the Indian market, making it a distinctive and considered gift for anyone with an appreciation for unusual, design-forward houseplants.
