Know Your Parlor Palm
Botanically known as Chamaedorea elegans, the Parlor Palm is a tropical palm native to the rainforests of Southern Mexico and Guatemala, belonging to the Arecaceae family, the same family as the towering date palms, coconut palms, and royal palms found across tropical landscapes worldwide. It is one of the most widely cultivated indoor palms in the world, grown for its fine, arching fronds and naturally compact, multi-stemmed form. It earned the name Parlor Palm during the Victorian era, when it became a fashionable fixture in the parlors and drawing rooms of wealthy European households, being one of the first tropical plants to be widely cultivated indoors. The Parlor Palm is one of the few palms in the world that can be successfully grown and thrive entirely indoors, without ever needing direct sunlight.
