About the Small Water Feeder

This small water feeder has a clear plastic jar that sits on a green tray, held in a green frame with a handle on top for hanging. Water from the jar keeps the tray filled as birds drink, and the tray opens up so you can rinse it and refill the jar without fuss. The clear jar shows you when it is running low. It is light and compact, so it fits well on a small balcony, a window grill or a garden hook. Fill it with fresh water every day, more often in peak summer, and hang it somewhere shaded where you can watch from inside. Sparrows, munias and sunbirds will make it part of their daily round, and it is lovely to see them stop by for a sip between visits to the plants.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
How can I get more birds to visit?

Hang it in the shade, close to a tree, creeper or plants where birds like to perch. Keep it clean and full, and birds soon learn it's a spot they can count on.

Do birds use it in the monsoon and winter too?

Yes, birds drink all year round. In the monsoon, keep the water fresh and free of mud. In winter they visit a little less often.

How do I stop mosquitoes breeding in it?

Give it fresh water every day. Mosquitoes need water that sits still for days, so a daily top-up keeps them away.

How do I clean it?

It comes apart for a quick rinse. Wash the jar and tray with plain water every few days, and more often in peak summer.

Can I add anything to the water?

No, just clean drinking water. Don't add sugar, salt, glucose or vitamins.
