About the Natural Shape Coir Bird Nest

This nest is a deep, open bowl of thick coconut coir, shaped like the cup nests that red-vented bulbuls, magpie robins and many other small birds build in shrubs and trees. There is no roof or entrance hole; birds simply step in from above. You can set it on a balcony ledge, a shelf, a window grill or in the fork of a tree, ideally somewhere shaded and sheltered from rain. The soft, fibrous walls give birds a good base to add their own twigs, grass and feathers. It suits small garden birds like sparrows, bulbuls and magpie robins. Tuck it among the leaves of a large potted plant or a garden shrub, where it looks just like part of the greenery.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
How long before birds move in?

Birds take their time. A pair may visit a new house for a few days or weeks before they settle in. Put it up early, leave it in one place, and you may soon see them carrying in grass and twigs.

Where should I put it up?

Above head height, on a wall, pillar or strong branch, in the shade and out of the rain. Keep it a little away from the feeder and out of reach of cats.

Should I put anything inside?

No, leave it empty. Birds like to build their own nest. A little dry grass or a few small twigs nearby is all they need.

How do I clean it?

Once the young birds have flown, take out the old nest and wipe the inside with plain water. Let it dry fully before the next pair moves in. No soaps or sprays.
