About the Classic Twin-entrance Coir Bird Nest

This nest is moulded from thick coconut coir into a wide cottage shape with a pointed, sloping roof. Two round entrance holes sit side by side on the front, opening into a roomy chamber that can take more than one small bird. A cord through the roof lets you hang it from a hook, branch or balcony railing. Coir is a natural fibre that lets air through, so the inside stays airy in the heat and sheltered on cooler days. House sparrows like to nest close to one another, and the two openings give them an easy way in and a second way out. Hang it in a quiet corner of the balcony or garden and listen for the chirping once a pair moves in.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
How long before birds move in?

Birds take their time. A pair may visit a new house for a few days or weeks before they settle in. Put it up early, leave it in one place, and you may soon see them carrying in grass and twigs.

Where should I put it up?

Above head height, on a wall, pillar or strong branch, in the shade and out of the rain. Keep it a little away from the feeder and out of reach of cats.

Should I put anything inside?

No, leave it empty. Birds like to build their own nest. A little dry grass or a few small twigs nearby is all they need.

How do I clean it?

Once the young birds have flown, take out the old nest and wipe the inside with plain water. Let it dry fully before the next pair moves in. No soaps or sprays.
