Know Your Philodendron xanadu
Botanically known as Thaumatophyllum xanadu, recently reclassified from Philodendron xanadu following updated botanical research, this tropical evergreen is native to Brazil and belongs to the Araceae family, grown for its dramatically lobed, glossy foliage and naturally compact, clumping growth habit. Unlike the majority of plants in its family, which climb or trail, the Xanadu grows outward in a dense, self-supporting rosette that becomes fuller and more impressive with age. It is commonly known as Winterbourn, a name given to it by its original commercial cultivators in Australia before its natural Brazilian origin was confirmed. The Xanadu was for many years believed to be an exclusively cultivated hybrid with no wild origin, until botanists confirmed it as a naturally occurring species native to the forests of Brazil.
