Know Your Jade Bonsai
Botanically known as Portulacaria afra, the Dwarf Jade plant is a succulent native to South Africa, grown for its dense, rounded foliage and naturally gnarled woody trunk that lends itself beautifully to the bonsai form. It is commonly known as Elephant Bush, a name it earned honestly, as it makes up a significant portion of the diet of wild elephants in its native habitat. Interestingly, Portulacaria afra is considered one of the most effective carbon-sequestering plants in the world, with large stands in South Africa actively used in carbon offset programmes.
